I've been using the PS-new, which is the same as the classic, and I am a tall guy and couldn't feel it reaching my prostate as much, so I then ordered the progasm. I've always had to urinate often since my teen years and felt that maybe my prostate was enlarged. I've been using them for 3 weeks now, about every 4-5 days and after each session, I feel really sick and depressed or toxic. I'm using slippery stuff gel after reading that it was the safest and least toxic.

I bought some epicurean shea butter from vitamin shoppe that says unrefined and triple filtered and looked up the info on the company web site and says nothing added, but I was afraid to use it because it has a sweet smell and I didn't know if this was normal or not.

What do you guys think?? Is it possible I'm pushing out some infection during each session??
Thanks!!

Can't say why you should feel sick following sessions. It might be in order, if you haven't done so, to have a good urologic checkup to be sure you don't have some sort of low grade prostatitis. Usually, palpating the prostate, as with the urologist's finger examination, is uncomfortable with prostatitis and I would think your prostate would be similarly uncomfortable during massage with a larger tool like the Progasm if you had this. If you're feeling badly only after your sessions, you've got me a little stumped.

Hi again OMF1960,

Sorry to hear about an ugly case of the blahs. This is no good as it affects your mental reactions and processes during and after a session. It would be good to tackle this issue up front.

Might be easiest to first consider your prep. Even a small douche/enema with heavily chlorinated municipal water may cause what you're feeling. (Chloramines are entering the bloodstream directly rather than passing through the digestive system.) To check this, do a couple of generous douches but abort your session without lubing. If you're reacting to tap water, filter it through a taste & odor filer or switch to distilled water.

Slippery Stuff Gel has been very 'neutral' in most guys bods and I've adopted it for travel; however, each man's reactions may differ. If your prep fluid checks out OK, try just a prep and lube and no Aneros session and see if you are reacting to the lube. If so, make the switch to Shea.

AAA Unrefined Shea butter & Coconut Oil is my favorite lube and it has a mild 'floral' fragrance that's not caused me any issues. No clue if that fragrance is a 'natural' ester in Shea Nuts or if it's an additive. I'd not sweat a mild fragrance.

I'm always concerned with either infection or excessive 'kill' of my natural bacteria so I 'pasteurize' my lube by heating it to 175 deg. F. then, hold it there for about ten minutes. I then divide the batch up into a dozen 'doses' (a month's worth) and chill those.

Rumel's 'natural jelly' recipe involves blending ingredients in a double boiler so if you adopt that lube you should be well protected.

Let us know what you find out and how you are doing over the next week or so.

Hello Oldmanfrom1960, 🙂

That's quite curious the negative reaction your body is having to Aneros sessions. Sorry to hear about that. Your body having an interaction with the lube is certainly a possibility. Rook has given you some excellent advice and methodology as far as how to isolate that problem. So go with that.

As far as your Epicurean Shea butter...
Yes, unrefined shea butter has a smell, and is stronger the less filtered it is. I wouldn't describe it as sweet though. More earthy like. From looking at their web site, they show to make fourteen different types of shea butter that have added essential oils into. Versus just one type that is pure shea butter only. You only want pure 100% unrefined shea butter with NO other added ingredients.
Shea Store

So are you sure that you didn't accidentally buy one that has essential oils in it? Throughly read the label to see what ingredients are in it. Because here in the USA, shea butter is marketed as skin/body moisturizer, not anal lube, it is quite common for shea butter to have added ingredients to make it smell different/more pleasant and likely an attempt to add to its beneficial skin moisturizing effect. The rectum absorbs whatever is put up there. So I wouldn't be surprised if some one were to have a reaction to a shea butter that has added ingredients or essential oils.

Now another thought that just occurred to me is the mental side of this issue. Assuming there is not a physical cause for your illness. I have to wonder, how do you feel about anal play and the use of the Aneros in general? As I think it would be entirely possible if you were struggling with extreme issues of shame, guilt, and fears of this "turning" you gay that it could manifest itself in physical symptoms. Probably not a popular line of thought in western medicine. But I just wanted to put it out there as a possibility.

Does this happen with you ejaculate without the help of aneros? You might have some form of post orgasmic illness syndrome.

The shea butter is one of the two african epicurean shea butter sells without anything added...100% unrefined but triple filtered and the smell is fragrant but not too strong. And actually I'm using the sessions for health reasons because I feel as if my prostate may be enlarged and prep with reverse osmosis water beforehand. I really think I may be reacting to the slippery stuff gel so I may try the shea butter when I get up the nerve.

Hi again OMF'60,

Understand where you are cumming from on the enlarged prostate. I share that issue, being in 'possession' of a prostate estimated by my Uro at about 45 grams. (about twice the volume of what it was at age 30 and one-half the volume where surgery would be indicated.) Genuine nuisance; but, for 10 years I've managed to stay even in the bhp ball game.

Good news is that if you've been checked (DRE and PSA) to generally rule out Prostatitis and Prostate Cancer the Aneros is a great way to augment meds in treating bph. Some guys here are avoiding meds altogether.

Two or three times a month I swallow my meds about 90 minutes before an good massage session and spend 45-60 minutes gently 'softening up' my prostate. During these sessions, I make no attempt at orgasmic pleasure, just therapy. And, it works. With very mild meds I'm gtg for another two weeks of Urinary 'normalcy.' Something I couldn't manage before I got into therapeutic massage.

The shea butter is one of the two african epicurean shea butter sells without anything added...100% unrefined but triple filtered and the smell is fragrant but not too strong. Sounds like you've got an OK variety of Shea Butter.

OK, good choice of water. Having an R-O unit between your bod and the city water supply tends to rule out prep issues. Before you make the 'leap' to Shea I'd suggest:

-- looking at just lube with no Aneros session or ejaculation -- lube and leave it in for a couple of hours before rinsing it out.
If you react to this then it's time to make the shift to a more 'natural' lube

-- The questions/comments from Tremelo and Chris_SoCal are on target -- your responses to those will give us a clue regarding an unusual response to more intense orgasm. As a 'migraineur' I can validate Chris's concern in this area. Some of us can possibly help with a means to navigate around this issue if it's confirmed.

Most guys who embark on this journey do not report into unusual orgasmic responses early in Aneros experience; however, some hormone responses can result in what you mention.

One of the primary objectives here is for you to eventually identify orgasm and ejaculation as two separate events. You may eventually respond separately to those two events and seek each separately.

Cheers, good vibes and best wishes for a grand journey.

You're absolutely right! That should teach me to not read through things a little more closely. LOL Anyways good choice on the filtered shea butter. As from my own experience, the unfiltered stuff doesn't work as well. (It's viscosity is too thin, the smell is really strong, and the dark yellow color stains materials.)

Sounds like you know what your next steps are that you need to experiment with. I hope you are able to find a way to have comfortable, healing, and eventually pleasurable Aneros sessions.
