Hi guys
As you know, a clean and safe tool is a major concern for everyone. I was thinking putting the aneros into the dishwasher (among the dishes !) once in a while. Do you thing it’s a good idea, or is it harmful for this kind of material ? Thanks a lot.

I wash with anti-bacterial hand soap and finish with a good toy cleaner...no dishwasher for me.

FWIW I always wash mine with antibacterial soap and scald/sterilise it with boiling water. I have used this procedure when using urethral sounds and never had any problems with infection.

@Hytner Can you boil both the silicone and plastic models without damaging their integrity, both in form and on a molecular level? I wouldn’t want to have plastic leaching into my body, and the rectal walls a very sensitive.

I also use antibacterial soap, and regular liquid and sometimes alcohol. It’s maybe better to keep that method. Thanks.

It's a good question. I don't actually 'boil it' in a pan or anything, just scald it quickly and thoroughly with boiling water. Silicones demonstrate excellent temperature resistance well above the boiling point of water, as for the plastics, I'm not sure which ones apply here. However, I would have thought that for many it would be common sense to use very hot water for cleaning, therefore the materials in use should have been considered for temperature stability up to 100C. I am sure the materials used for the design of any personal toys or insertables are regulated for human safety and toxicity whether the concern is leaching or something else.

Actually I don't believe that is true. As far as I know the sex toy industry is not regulated as to the safety and or toxicity of the materials used in some products. It is well known that 'jelly' dongs/dildos can not be effectively sanitized owing to their porosity, also some toys have toxic phthalates in their composition. There are numerous articles available on the internet which discuss some of the dangerous products openly available in the marketplace, e.g. see Toxic Toys – The Definite Guide to Toxic Sex Toy Awareness.

Fortunately the Aneros lineup of products are all constructed from body safe materials and pose no health risks due to their material makeup, please see Anatomy of the Aneros. The 'Clasic' line, Vice/DeVice & Tempo models can all be boiled for sanitation purposes. The 'SYN' models can probably also be boiled but I think this should be avoided as it might possibly weaken the adhesion between the silicone and acetal core material owing to differential coefficients of expansion between the two materials. This might allow the silicone skin to slip loosely around the core. I would also advise against boiling the new Vice2 as heat or water intrusion may ruin the electronics integrated within them. It's probably best to just use a silicone toy cleaner or simple soap and water as recommended by the manufacturer with those models.
Good Vibes to You !

I've been using a glycerin liquid soap, and wiping all insertables both before & after with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Is this enough?

I'm not a huge fan of soaps with perfumes, seems like most anti-bacterial soaps have them. Thanks!

Cool. I’ll keep doing soap and water then. Once after use, and once right before use. And thanks for the info on jelly dildos. Creepy stuff!

I wash my toys in hot soapy water after each use then place them in a plastic tub containing water, a weak mixture of bleach and 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. I leave it in this bath for 24 hours. They come out clean with no smell.
