I'm a noob, and have had about 5 sessions so far, with very gradual and subtle results thus far. Enough to be encouraging, but no O's just yet.

I'm curious about some of the breathing. I have done yoga, meditation, etc, which involve timed/coordinated breathing, and have found great benefits to this.
However, the "warm up" routine on the Aneros site seems counterintuitive. It recommends breathing in while contracting the sphinchter and exhaling while relaxing it. This is the precise opposite to what feels natural to me. Specifically, in order to properly inhale, my abdominal muscles need to be relaxed and open in order to pull the breath deep into my belly. I cannot do this if my pelvic floor is contracted because this also contracts my abdominal muscles. As a result, I take in an un-natural chest breath.

Should I ditch the recommended breathing pattern and just go with what feels more natural to me? Am I not doing it correctly or missing something?

Thanks for any input.
I may do a session this morning and experiment with my breathing. I am interested in the 'vibratory'/'pulse' breathing that others have used.

Thanks!!!!!!
Michael

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of Aneros!

Someone else mentioned that discrepancy but I can't find the thread. As a long past dabbler in yoga the same thing had occurred to me too. I would say go with what feels right to you. There are no hard and fast rules, everyone's journey is unique so whatever gets you 'there' is ok.

I, personally, have never needed the contract-relax routine even from the very beginning (May this year) and got results just from holding a contraction whilst doing the breathing. If you hold a contraction long enough - for me 5-10 mins at the beginning, now almost instantaneous - (my body just seems to know what to do!) you'll get involuntary twitches and spasms which are the forerunner to the P-waves and on up.

Experiment with what feels good, if you get a response focus on it and 'feel' it more.

Above all, have fun!
