If the question is will Baby oil harm your Helix? No it won't . With respect to Baby oil as an effective lube, that another matter. IMO opinion it is too thin to the job. As twlltin mentioned Vaseline (petroleum jelly) is nothing more that jellied mineral oil. The difference is that petroleum jelly is more viscous and adheres better to the surface of Helix than mineral oil.

In so far as Vaseline "being good for your skin" goes, it depends on who you are talking to. I'm certain that the makers of Vaseline would like you to think so. And while many in the cosmetics industry wouldn't openly endorse "Vaseline" they do use mineral oil as a primary constituent in many of their preparations as well. Conversely, those in the health and wellness communities are strictly against it decrying it as refuse from cracking a barrel of crude. While it is true that Vaseline has humble origins (originally derived from a waxy substance that accumulated around rigs pumping oil out of the ground), it has been in use for almost 140 years as an emollient.

Personally I've gone both ways on it. I've used it in the past from time to time and will probably continue to do so in the future but I generally prefer nut and/or fruit oils. With respect to how long it is retained in the rectum, I don't think anybody has done a study on this but I'd guess that most of it is dispatched in one or two bowel movements. Most sources will tell you that mineral oil is not absorbed by the body.

Mayfield is correct about Vaseline not being absorbed by the body. The exception to that happens when you apply it externally and it is absorbed into the top, dead layer of skin. In my experience using Vaseline daily as part of the lube system for Aneros, I find it is not absorbed in the rectum. I typically use a fruit (Olive) or nut oil (Walnut) to cover the Vaseline and those oils certainly are absorbed.

Prior to Aneros, I've used Vaseline for over 45 years on blisters, splits and callouses (tennis feet and hands) to good effect. Nothing else, at any price works as well for me in that application.
