Once I began to respond to the Aneros tools with involuntary contractions, several of the old timers in the Forum suggested that I undertake some 'aneros-less' sessions.
@Artform instructed that I start with small muscle moves resembling those that I'd do if I had inserted a toy. Once I was getting some response from those small moves, he asked that I not make the actual muscle move but just think about the move while not allowing the muscle to contract. (and not forgetting to stay, RELAXED!) That has formed the basis for my "a-less" sessions and, while there is little or no actual movement, I can feel the build in energy in my key core chakras.
For those who eschew 'chakra energy' and prefer to think only in terms of nerves and muscles there is some explanation in the following Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premovement_neuronal_activity
Since the force of gravity exerts a 'sensory bias' upon our kinesthetic system it complicates the study of this phenomenon.
To examine these effects in a micro-gravity environment, NASA has a specialized exercise task as a part of the ISS project set during ISS expedition 42/43.

Thank you.
Good stuff.
@rook,Thank you so much for this thread. You have saved me from starting a similar one!
I have not had an Aneros session since last Sunday, (used P4 for about 90 minutes). Since then, I have woken each morning to a mild A-less session until yesterday, when I had what I deem to have been only my second A-less super-O ever?! This morning, I woke to another (almost)! This one was interrupted by a phone call. Inconsiderate bastard!
In both of these latest events, I suddenly realised that I was using the exact same technique that you and @Artform espouse. (Where is Artform these days BTW)?
I have found that once the P-waves begin, I soon get to an orgasmic state by imagining that I am having conventional sex by tensing the pelvic muscles involved, without actually creating any body movement; as it were, making very slow but gentle thrusts (about 2 seconds), holding for a full second and then withdrawing over a second or so before repeating. This creates the most wonderful sensation, entirely driven by the mind and involving my complete body, but without actually moving anything.
Lovely being re-wired isn't it?
Rook, so you you picture your muscle moving but don't let it move? You don't actively resist movement do you? Or do you just intend to move it but don't engage the actual muscle? Do you imagine what the moving muscle feels like? Which muscles do you do that with, the anal? Does the energy build up create the anerosless orgasm? This could be what is going on subconsciously around a less session, part of the rewiring. As Spock says, "fascinating" 🙂
@euphemistic,I'm not answering for @rook but, for me, the answer is YES to all of the above!
A lso, just for me anyway, the muscles involved are those one normally uses to engage in conventional sexual intercourse.
@Euphemistic : Yes. For example just thinking about an anal contraction (while avoiding the actual contraction) can cause me to break into outer-sphincter oscillation much as I would by following the "contraction method" in the Aneros Wiki and holding a given "percentage" of contraction until I break into anal flutter.
The thing that interests me is the body building aspect of this principle. One selects an attack-speed for a given muscle contraction and 'thinks' that through as a rehearsal for an actual muscle move. Then paces the actual repetition using the same attack-speed. If the theory is correct, the exercise will produce the maximum strength building for that particular attack-speed. If I understand it correctly, a "complete exercise" should be done at a variety of attack speeds.
Perhaps Kegels are a good place to start.
So I can exercise and build muscles by anticipating certain exercises but not actually doing anything? Perfect 🙂
Maybe I don't have the right concept.
Nothing is free and, "no-pain, no-gain." is still tried and true. Movement and repetitions are needed to either bulk or delineate.
My read of the "Implications" paragraph (In the SDSU posting reference) is that the authors believe in rehearsing at the needed 'attack-velocity' (nerve action without muscle move) before allowing the actual muscle move needed for the desired task. That might be maximum pitching velocity for an arm or desired involuntary contraction velocity for a PC muscle group. It's the "thinking-thru" that rehearses the proper exercise. Their point is that the best muscle performance for the task will be achieved only at the velocity that's practiced.
Put another way. Slow bulking-lifts train one to perform slow lifts. If you want to perform lighter tasks more accurately and rapidly, you have to first develop the nerve responses (by just thinking them) before undertaking the muscle moves.
When we practice Kegels we should place as much emphasis on attack speed as we do on endurance and strength. "Thinking" each Kegel through, in an A-less manner might be the fast track.
