Are there some lubricants that you shouldn't use? I've heard of people using olive oil, palm oil, shea butter, silicon, vaseline, etc. Seems the natural ones would be better, but i use silicone for sex and it is nice. But do I want to put it up my ass? Thanks.
Hello aneros_user353817, 🙂
It just depends what your beliefs are. For myself, I prefer to use natural lubes when possible. This happens to be 100% unrefined shea butter, of the Now Foods brand. Keep in mind that whatever lube is placed in your rectum will be absorbed somewhat by your body. So it's just a question of, do you have an issue with that?

You are absolutely right. Some lubes made specially for anal use are better there than lubes that are tailored for vaginal use or for general surgical use. A great surgical lube for a 30 second rectal exam might not have the lasting power we want for a couple of hours of anal play.
For most guys, if it's edible, it's OK as an anal lube.
hope this get's you started.
Slippery Stuff Gel has been my favorite; it's really thick, lasts a long time, and was designed for medical anal use. In fact, it was the only one that passed an anal safety test, found in this article:
AEGiS-CATIE News: Intriguing findings from study on lubricants - March 29, 2007
Unfortunately, there was no shea butter, coconut oil, vaseline, etc, in the study, just the most popular lubes shoved in the butt.
I have found that if the lube contains glycerin I get about 15 minutes of use before I have to deficate. I clear the bowel, feel crampy then lose interest. I haven't tried Olive Oil for anal nor pure Shea butter or the flax seed concoction, but I will.
Please note that almost all of the water based products contain glycerin, I've tried most of the off-the-shelf products recommended on this site and those almost always contain glycerin, which for me only allows an insufficient time with the aneros.
Petroleum Jelly works for me, lasts a long time and doesn't give me the reaction that glycerin does. It's also not really recommended, but not really frowned upon. My next step is to.... try the flax seed process or go to the Shea butter.
I don't clear the bowel with an enema as I do not want to mess with the flora in my gut. I do use high fiber products the night before to clear my bowel in the morning with what I call a "significant colonic event" -- that works for me. Even fasting for a 36 hours and sometimes longer helps, but I always end the fast with the high fiber to ensure a good cleared bowel. This is essential for comfort during the sessions, at least for me it is. Gas also can (and does) interfere with my comfort level so I watch my intake the day before as well.
Hope that helps.... I'm sure to hear back on my choice of petroleum jelly, but I am investigating these other more natural lubes.
Slippery Stuff does not have any glycerine; that's why it was designated for rectal medical use.
My preferred solution is coconut oil. At normal temperature it becomes solid and is easily moulded into a pessary and inserted. Once warmed it becomes extremely slippery
just got some slippery stuff gel lube and I cant believe how good it is. I was trying for a while the petroleum jelly idea, but the gel works just as good without the possible bad stuff. really nice for nip stim
