To Practice Semen Retention Or Not: Who's Right?

Here is an interesting write-up I found about studies reflecting the risks and the negative effects of semen retention and the practice of no ejaculation at all.  If you read through this reddit.com thread, the author seems to concede  that the act of ‘milking' could be an acceptable avenue to minimize the risk of prostate cancer but continues to warn against the practice.

It's somewhat confusing considering that, according to the famous book ‘The Multi Orgasmic Man‘, for thousands of years, Taoist have been suggesting to reduce ejaculation frequency with age until you reach a point where ejaculation should be avoided altogether.

Who's right?  What's the right path to a healthier, prostate cancer-free old age?

Opinions?

I read through that reddit post and the comments. I was already aware of some of the studies findings of correlation (not causation) of infrequent ejaculation to prostate cancer. Is their increased risk to developing prostate cancer from semen retention practices? Yes, but to what extent is difficult to ascertain. There are so many other factors (diet, lifestyle, genetics, etc.) which affect a persons health that isolating one personal practice as a cause is probably impossible. I don't think occasional periods of temporal abstinence are significant enough to elevate one's risk level by a significant amount. With that being said long term semen retention is not something I think is a good idea, at the very least I think prostates should be relieved of their contents at least weekly, if not by ejaculation, then through prostate milking. As you may know I have advocated for members to pursue the 21 day challenge of semen retention but this is primarily for them to get a feeling for how their arousal levels can be affected, not as a lifetime practice.

Good Vibes to You!

1) A urologist probably doesn’t know anything else other than to say you need to ejaculate frequently.

2) I wouldn’t take what the book author says as gospel either.

3) If you’re leaking and expelling fluids in your sessions, you are relieving the prostate of its contents so not semen retention in the strictest form. Maybe outright retention is bad but they you’re body will wet dream you and clear out. This correlation you speak of is probably cantered around guys who are not jacking or fucking and not journeyman either.

4) I cum 1-2 per month now,but along with journey,my psa is extremely low. So there’s that. Most things are genetic. I’m not worried.

Here is my personal opinion.  Use it or lose it.  this is how our body works.  If you use your muscles, they grow or maintain strength.  If you keep your mind active, it tends to stay sharp.  Our bodies adjust to our lifestyle.

Based on this alone, if you stop ejaculating, I can't help but believe it has a negative effect on the prostate.  It's not being used, and so it will not function, or be as healthy.

This doesn't mean a person needs to always be doing it, however I would suggest that a person should have periods where they do have regular ejaculations.

For example, if you want to retain semen purely to increase Aneros effectiveness, try going say 3 weeks without ejaculation (while using aneros) followed by 2 or 3 weeks of having 3 or 4 ejaculations a week.  use a wave pattern.

This is just my .02 cents.

@jja3 according to 'the book' at 67, I'm in the age category where I should no longer ejaculate but I never planned to stop. I also believe in the saying you referred to 'use it or lose it'.

Like @helghast, I indulge once or twice a month and thoroughly enjoy it every time.  It does clean the pipes.

Thing is,on this journey, your prostate isn’t mothballed. It’s being massaged, leaking fluids, generating orgasms. The journey will also keep the musculature of the pelvic floor in shape.

True, however ejaculation is not happening which means a link in the chain, somewhere is being neglected.  If not the prostate, than something else.  Prostate issues usually happen when men get older.  This is also when men are having less frequent ejaculations.  Are the two connected?  I don't know but it is something to consider.  As I mentioned above, I think using a wave pattern where some time is devoted to prostate massage, without ejaculation followed by a period where ejaculations occur might be a good way of doing things.
