Hey gang.
I've been using my Helix for a few months now with some nice feelings but never any involuntary spasms (without me holding a contraction) and never any sense of direct contact to the prostate (though I could be wrong). I've always been in control with this device no matter how much I relax. My body has never "taken over" so to speak.
I bought this model because it is widely renowned as the flagship model or most popular. Is it possible that this model is no good for me? I'm an average sized guy (5'9" and 175 lbs).
My first instinct was to buy a Progasm when I came here but I decided on the Helix due to its popularity.
Has anyone else tried the Helix without success and had must better results with another model?
I'm wondering if it's possible that the Helix just doesn't "fit me" as opposed to not giving it a chance.
Thanks 🙂
I was where you are for a year, until I cut the handle off my Helix. The improvement was almost immediate. The very next session brought new sensations and I got involuntaries the session after that. In my case, It seems like the positioning of the handle restrained the Helix's movement, so that it never quite contacted my prostrate. Maybe you're having a similar issue.
Hello, Valhalla.
I agree with Scott that the handle can be a hindrance, but suggest shortening it as opposed to cutting it off entirely. It's the curly part that gets in the way. Cut that off and you'll be left with a straight, flat part about 1.5 inches long. The remainder of the handle will align the tool with your butt crack. That will help to keep the P-tab centered on your perineum.
You might also want to try the "Alternative Exercise" discussed in the Aneros Wiki: "Do Nothing." Simply entering a state of deep relaxation may allow your body to "take over" as you put it. Worked for me.
Best Regards,
Dave
I have somewhat of a bubble butt that I don't think really hinders the movement of the Helix when laying on my back but you never know. Is that the only thing the tail hinders or does it also block the Helix from entering more? Thanks.
Edit: I tried the "do nothing" approach once and had no results. Perhaps I need to be more persistent and give it a few more tries.
Hi Valhalla41... please pardon what may seem to be TMI
First, the tail can hinder both inward and angular (forward tilt) of the Helix. This is particularly true if you are a bit 'fleshy' between your anus and tailbone. This might come into play if an involuntary response attempts a 'suck-in' the the Helix.
For me Helix is quite sensitive to gravity when compared to MGX or Progasm. I think this is due to proportionally greater mass in the head and its slender lower body and stem. Helix's design seems to yield more agility and sensitivity to body position and posture.
Trimming the tail, using tsn's suggestion may help. Leaving some tail not only helps keep the p-tab aligned but also minimizes lateral 'wag' of the head when you are on your side.
When on my back, I have to apply some muscle to 'lift' Helix upward (toward my naval) into more intimate contact with the most sensitive areas of my prostate. While a lot of guys prefer a back position, it seems to 'drag me down' and doesn't promote the degree of relaxation I shoot for.
A belly position does provide excellent prostate contact but it's not comfortable or practical, particularly when I wish to apply stim to my DanTien or nipple(s). So I compromise with a body position rotated about quarter-way between my side and belly. Then, I make minor knee and hip position adjustments to get the best trade-off between prostate contact and a relaxed posture.
Once relaxed in your favorite position, you should feel the Helix make subtle movements in response to just your breathing. Then, let-go and allow the pleasure to slowly emerge. Enjoy.
Rook, I appreciate the response (as well as the other responses). More info is always better in my opinion. I may give the tail trim a go, I've just been hesitant since it's not a cheap toy to start making modifications to but what the heck, right?
Whether I trim the tail or not, I may wind up giving the Progasm a go as well. I was leaning that way before I purchased the Helix anyway but because of the Helix's popularity I felt that it was a safe bet.
I have most all the models and for some reason, the helix just does nothing for me. I have tried it countless times with no luck. I have no idea why that is the case, but it is. I have cut the tail off on all my models with the exception of the maximus and right now, that one is my favorite. Can't say that it is because the tail is still there?
For the longest time, the progasm was my favorite and would highly recommend that one. For me, I can't start out with the progasm, as its size hurts upon insertion. I start out with a smaller model and work up to the progasm
Just to clarify this, you suggest shortening it around here?
Since the highest point of the tail will still be there, I don't see why this whould affects it's positioning as opposed to cutting the entire tail.
Perhaps the Helix will serve as a good stepping stone to the Progasm (warming up each session).
On an unrelated note, can anyone recommend a good lubricant? I have KY Warming which I prefer not to use because I think the warming irritates. I also have ID Glide. I've read that the KY gets sticky quick and ID glide lasts forever. However, I've had just the opposite experience. My KY lasts forever with only a small amount and ID Glide for me, requires frequent revisiting because it gets dry and sticky very fast. Thanks.
Hello, grayfox.
Yes, that's where I truncated the tail. The remaining portion serves to align the tool, which helps to keep the P-tab centered. The curly part is what was hitting the mattress when I lay flat on my back.
Best Regards,
Dave
Hi, guys,
Try leaving the small extension for a while and see how you like it. If you feel that it's still not making good contact with the prostate, cut it off short. (Be sure to take some sand paper or an emery board and smooth out the rough cut.) I have no tail at all on any of my Aneros toys, and I love the sensations they all give...btw, I recently reshaped the p-tab on my old MGX, and now IT'S MY NEW BEST FRIEND! Seriously, it's great.
Taking the curly bits off the toys makes a big difference, IMHO.
Cockadoodle
Well, so far I've always solved the matress problem with a pillow and between the curl and my body there's probably 2 inches of space. I mean, I certainly would like to try it out but am a bit shy since it's obiously an irreversible process 🙂
@Cook: Did you even cut your progasm if you have one?
I also find it hard to exactly tell whether or not a model has better prostate contact than before.
To the OP: If you've only been with the Helix for a few months, I would recommend that you continue using it. As long as you're getting nice feelings, that's probably a good sign. I've had my Helix for about a year now after having an MGX for a while and then not using any Aneros for almost a year. My sessions continue to get better. I had a particularly great one today after deciding to go without ejaculating for a day (I had gotten in the habit of getting off every day.) I had my first real orgasm due to an Aneros today, and it (along with the rest of the session) was sublime.
If your sessions aren't getting better as time goes on, though, you may want to try another model.

I would guess that the way your experience with the lubes is counter to your expectations is due to different body chemistry down there for you as an individual. I use Slippery Stuff Gel, and I like it pretty well. I used to use KY, without many complaints, but got concerned about its safety due to methylparaben, if I remember correctly (not sure that I do.) I would suggest trying out Slippery Stuff and see if you like it.
