On psychiatric meds and how they affect A-sessions

I was started on a low-dose trial of Adderall today, and I'm wondering what I'm in for as far as how much easier or more difficult trying to maintain an A-session is going to be. I figure that since it's supposed to help concentration, it may help, but it may also just turn my focus to other things, and I just lose all interest in anything that isn't work. The Wellbutrin I've been on didn't seem to make any change, but that also isn't an amphetamine.

What meds are you on, and do you think they've changed sex or how you think about it?

You may be ok with the adderall, typically it's SSRI's that cause issues.

Adderall will amplify your sex drive 10 fold. Don't be surprised if you find yourself surfing porn for hours and hours. It will affect blood flow to your penis as if you were in a cold pool. You may get so amped up that it could be hard to get into a really relaxed state for the aneros session. As a long time user myself I'd try to not take it every day otherwise you'll need it to just to feel normal. I usually do 4-5 days on and take the rest of the week off.

It's a low dose to start, 10mg instant release, twice daily. It was prescribed because I'd told my psych that every day was a constant wrestling with that "In over my head, and drowning" feeling.

I kinda gave up on porn a year or two ago. It only depressed me. I'd started looking at the "amateur gay couples" stuff, and some of them were just so tender that it struck all the wrong nerves and got me thinking a lot about the string of failed relationships I've got under my belt. And then that feeling just kinda spread to the rest of whatever porn I would look at. Didn't kill the sex drive, though. I still fantasize a lot in the shower or in bed. You know, that "loving-but-still-imaginary partner" thing some people do. But eventually even those fantasies are wrecked by the little voice saying "it's not real, you're still on your own".

That loss of focus on a 'happy place' may be what kills a lot of my A-sessions. Maybe the meds can help that.

How long have you been taking the Adderall? I'd be surprised if you weren't hornier than you've been in a long time on it. I've been on it for 5+ years and I'm only only 30mg, two 10mg instant release would be really intense for a new user. If the highs and lows are too much with instant release, try asking for extended release. Right now I do 20mg extended upon waking and 10mg instant around lunch. And just know that you will crash at the end of the day and if you deal with depression, know that it's just the Adderall wearing off and your natural dopamine trying to recover and it's not your real emotions. It'll get easier with time.

I only just started today. Haven't noticed anything, really. I've been on amphetamine-type meds before. Ritalin, dexedrine, and I think straight-up amphetamine at one point. Something had happened and my blood pressure just dropped to "How is your heart still beating?" levels, and they gave me amps to bring me out of it.

The dose of instant release may or may not be related to me being on Welbutrin (which was meant for the anxiety and panic; It smoothed out the manic highs but not a whole lot for the depressive lows), or it may be that historically I've not been very responsive to stimulants.

Take back a large part of what I said. Sensitivity in the nipples came back with a vengeance. That's new. Pulse picked up for a few minutes as well, but even after the giant mug of coffee, that settled back, and I don't think my BP's gone up either. I'm going in for platelets this afternoon, so they'll let me know if anything's out of tune.

@bobster2k Is the new sensitivity going to be a temporary thing? Or can I count on it being a friend that's there when I need it?

For me the hornyness and sensitivity are always something I can count on with it, but I also don't take the meds every day. I've taken it for a couple weeks straight every day before and by the end of it I was no longer getting those good feelings and I just needing it to feel normal. If you give yourself time off each week, you can maintain the good feeling because your body won't build a tolerance so fast.

Also it may not be as effective if you take it on a full stomach or just after eating when your stomach is full of acid. I usually take mine in the morning with water and a tums, then wait an hour or two to eat.

@bobster2k The prescription says to take one 10mg tab twice daily, so that's what I've got to do. Unless you meant to lay off the nipples for a few days at a time.

And I was also just about to ask about the effectiveness of doses at different times of day. I noticed I didn't get much of that lovin' feeling after today's afternoon dose, and I guess that was because I'd eaten already. So good that you mentioned that.

I do have to eat something in the morning, cos I also take iron tabs, and those will absolutely wreck an empty stomach.

My prescription is for all 7 days too but I only use it for work and always take the weekends off to maintain my tolerance and prolong the good feelings I get from the meds when I start again the next week. Also when coming off adderall at the end of the day I am irritable and don't want to talk to anyone which is why I avoid taking it on the weekends too. Try taking your adderall first thing in the morning, wait 30-60 minutes then eat and take your iron. The instant release pills shouldn't take long to take effect. But I'm not a doctor so don't change your dosing based on what a stranger on the internet said. It's just what I've found to work best for me.
