MGX caused incontinence?

I believe I may have inadvertently set myself up for my MGX to cause temporary incontinence. I am a 74-year old healthy male with an overactive bladder (OAB). I often wake up in the night to make voluntary “pit stops.” No medication helps. For the last few days I had been using my MGX daily. Last night I dined out and drank several cups of tea. At home, I enjoyed two glasses of wine before retiring. During my first pit stop at midnight, I was horrified to discover the seat of my pajamas were soaking wet with urine. This was my first case of involuntary urinary incontinence. Fears of permanent incontinence ran through my head. Fortunately, incontinence did not recur thereafter.
“Perhaps I overdid it by overusing the MGX, overdrinking tea at night and capping it off with wine. Never again!” I consoled myself
Did I overuse the MGX? Did I perhaps bruise my prostate? Are there recommendations for how often and how long to use the MGX? Are these suggestions age specific? Is there any other advice users can offer?

I am not a doctor, and not an expert on this at all. However, by having a swollen prostate it makes it harder to urinate. Could it be possible that this weakened your muscles that you use to keep yourself from peeing on yourself? Then by using the aneros it relieved some of the pressure and with your weakend muscles you pee'd? I'm just guessing, trying to look at it from a positive point of view.

If this is the case it's a good thing, strengthen the muscles and keep reducing pressure by using the aneros. Should probably talk to a doctor if it happens anymore though.

bodsin,

It is highly unlikely that the MGX produced this episode of incontinence. To the contrary, use of the Aneros has generally been associated with better bladder control as one is exercising and toning the muscles that are involved with shutting off the flow of urine. My suggestion would be to avoid the tea and alcohol after 7:00 p.m. at night and see how you do with that. I should also mention that some urologists advise their patients to limit or discontinue their intake of caffeine and alcohol, particular in the case of BPH and prostatitis. If this situation continues, I would advise that you consult with your doctor.

On how often one should use the Aneros, there is no established number sessions per day or per week if that is what you're asking. Like anything else, it's best not to overdo things. But you need to let your body tell you what is appropriate. (Again, I wouldn't necessarily take this recent incident as a sign, eliminate the other factors first, then evaluate it.)

Hi bodsin,

In mid-70's. I'm a fairly close match to what New111111a relates. Daily Hytrin and a lengthy, easy-going, Aneros session will always loosen me up and yield a very generous, easy-to-control stream. An unwise bruising of my prostate will result in difficulty in urination that persists for at least a day, sometimes two.

Thank you for your replies. There was no recurrence. Obviously, at first I was panic-stricken. In retrospect, I believe I inadvertently set myself up for involuntary incontinence by overdrinking. Never again! Probably my muscles were both weak and tired at the time. In time, the device will strengthen the muscles. I may mention the incident to my urologist during my upcoming exam. Again thank you.
