I recently started rendering my own beef tallow to cook with, using a glass double boiler. Then rendering it a second time with distilled water for purity. Tallow has a long shelf life unrefrigerated, so I've been wondering if it would be safe to use in a lube mix. What do you guys think?
I do alot of experimenting with lube mixes, and I recently started using Lanolin as a base (it's awesome stuff, with great properties). Now I keep thinking about making some kind of all animal lube. I'm thinking a mix of Lanolin, Tallow and Mink oil would make an excellent lube. Good for you too. Look up the ingredients and their use in ointments and other body products.
Anybody have any thoughts on the subject?
Whatever you put up your butt, goes into your bloodstream faster than ingesting; you're essentially supercharging animal fat into your system.
@Badger That part doesn't really bother me. My body (energy level and libido) likes food made with fat alot better than olive oil. In fact I don't think fat is as bad for us as we're taught to believe. ...At least people haven't gotten any healthier since animal fat was declared evil 😉 But, I'll keep eating large amounts of garlic, just in case.
On a purely nutritional comparison, beef tallow contains cholesterol that vegetable-derived oils do not. That's the only significant difference. I don't know how much the effects of cholesterol depend on digestive processes.
Lanolin and mink oil are where I would be cautious. Don't assume that something is appropriate for internal use just because it's a favored ingredient of cosmetics or skin care products.
Ingestion of lanolin apparently risks forming a waxy intestinal blockage. That's a pretty disastrous effect, but I don't suppose it's a great concern if administered rectally.
I find no information about ingestion of mink oil. It seems nobody has thought to eat it. That one deserves more research before use, or an examination of its purpose in your formula. Can you substitute a different oil whose internal-use effects are known?
@PSLabs Well, Lanolin is the other main ingredient in Vaseline, so I've basically been using it for years. Now, after a month of using just Lanolin with distilled water, it hasn't changed my bowel movements any. And I actually think I'm a bit more sensitive in there. ...Lanolin (and honey) also seems to work well in a Fleshlight. TOMAX, in my case. Though it is a bit too thick until it gets warmed up and 'worked' a little. It doesn't leave any scaly buildup on my dick either.
As for Mink oil, I haven't read about anybody eating it either. But it is good for the skin. And it absorbs into the skin. So I figure there isn't much difference if it gets absorbed a little faster rectally. I try to expel as much lube as possible after sessions anyway.
Look, the reason I want to make an animal based lube is because for some reason using too much vegetable oil, including Shea butter, in either cooking or as lube, kills my libido. So I end up going back to petrolatum jelly (not vaseline anymore) for sessions. I really want to get away from petroleum products, so I'm just looking outside of the box, expanding my options, and seeing what my body likes. So if cholesterol is my only concern from homemade tallow, I think I'll take cholesterol over cancer 😉
Well, Lanolin is the other main ingredient in Vaseline,I don't find lanolin listed among Vaseline's ingredients, active or inert. Do you have a source for that?
I wouldn't expect lanolin to be a problem, anyway. It's only mentioned as dangerous when ingested orally, and its only toxicity comes from pesticide residues that are removed during commercial purification. As for Mink oil, I haven't read about anybody eating it either. But it is good for the skin. And it absorbs into the skin. That's irrelevant. Skin and colon are not in any way the same. Analogizing between them is fallacious.
In all likelihood, mink oil probably has no bad internal effects, since it's derived from presumbaly edible animal parts. But wouldn't you like some factual information about what you're putting into your body? Or is "makes sense" the feeble standard of evidence you'll settle for?Look, the reason I want to make an animal based lube is because ...I understand the motives, and it's an interesting question. You asked for thoughts, and my thoughts are that you should make an effort to learn what effects those substances will have once they're inside your body.
A big "duh" moment just hit me. Practically every commercially useful or commercially prepared substance has a published MSDS.
Here's one for mink oil: http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9926124
Other manufacturers publish their own versions. The few I sampled had largely identical content.
The manufacturers surely consider worst-case exposure in their recommendations, but there's no way I'd put that stuff in me after reading them.
@wandering smoke, I don't know what kind of Vaseline you're using, but nearly all without perfumes and such, labeled 100% [Petroleum Jelly], are just that: 100% Petroleum Jelly. There's no lanolin in Vaseline; I'm allergic to lanolin and it dries my skin out, but this doesn't affect me in that way at all.
