Headphones Tip: Build Super-Long Headphones

During an Aneros session, I like to use headphones to listen to erotic or relaxing music. However, whenever I moved my head or changed the music, I would get distracted by the cold cord touching my bare skin. I ended up spending way too much time positioning the cords and then trying to not move my head.

My solution now is to combine two headphones to create one super-long headphone. Pieces needed:

As you can guess, I just plug both in-ear headphones into the headphone splitter. The idea is to then use the “right” side from one headphone, and the “left” side from the other. I use two plastic twist ties to tie each unused earbud to its cord so it stays out of the way.

Finally, if any part of the headphone cord is still too short, you can extend it by using an audio extension cable. For example, connect one extension cable to the splitter to extend the possible distance between you and the audio source. You can also use two extension cables to make each side of this super-long headphone even longer.

The final product is a bit comical as it looks and acts like one headphone, just really really long. But no longer having to fiddle with short cords means I can position them exactly how I need them before a session so the cold cords are no longer a distraction.

I hope this helps someone else :).

I'm guessing you do it that way so you can have the wires split on either side of the bed? It's a good idea. You could probably suspend the wires from a small ceiling hook too.

If you want better sound, try a Turtle Beach DSS (not DSS2). One of those will make even the worst headphones sound amazing.

This strikes me as being a lot of work for little result.

What's wrong with just using bluetooth (or similar) chord less headphones? The better ones on the market are also "over ear" and hence, noise cancelling!

@Pommie All the bluetooth headphones I looked at still had a wire or frame connecting the two earbuds. I feared that part becoming distracting when laying down, so I never tried any. Do you have a recommendation?

For now I just have the each headphone cord go straight out and away from my head, and then wire it back to the audio source. If I could get rid of the wires with the same no-distraction effect, I would switch :).

@Wandering_Smoke I finally got around to looking into the Turtle Beach DSS. Sounds fantastic (pun unintended)! I ordered a used one and it should be arriving next week. I'm excited! Thanks for the advice.

I didn't actually start trying to make super-long headphones until I started having my Aneros session in a recliner chair (I just posted about it here: https://community.aneros.com/forum/discussion/16253/in-a-recliner-chair). When laying in a bed, I could always just put my mp3 player above/behind my head so it and the cords were out of the way. This doesn't work in a recliner. Now with the super-long headphones, I can have my mp3 player off to the side, while each earbud is individually wired up over the back of the chair straight to my ear. No more distracting cold cords. Yay!

@awakeprostate,

Sorry! I misunderstood. I hadn't realised that you are using in-ear buds. Each to his own, personally, I can't stand them. I find they are simply too uncomfortable and that of itself is a distraction.
